Hi Friends,
I’ve been plugging away at finals, which have fortunately been modified in light of, you know, everything. UCLA just announced our commencement ceremonies will be happening online, which was not unexpected given the current timeline for this pandemic. Still, it’s another reminder that come June I will likely graduate into a massive recession (and lose my student health insurance, which all things considered has been pretty good). Vinnie is also finishing up his degree (this week!) For about a year the plan has been that he would apply for jobs while I finished and then, gainfully employed, we would move back to Oakland and begin ~the next phase of our lives~. Lol.
I am very lucky in many ways. Even with all of these stressful factors, not being in immediate financial peril or being forced to choose between my health and my ability to pay bills puts me in a far more fortunate situation than so many people. Which is wild! Capitalism sure is terrible.

Do you want to read a feel-good story about a former elite gymnast who was the first to report sexual abuse by team doctor Larry Nassar, barely missed out on making the 2016 Olympic team, and then had a record-breaking NCAA career? Of course you do. And here’s a short clip of Maggie Nichols (the aforementioned gymnast) and UCLA’s Kyla Ross finishing their NCAA careers with perfect 10s on vault.
